Juneau County is proud to host upwards of 250 bird species each year - many of whom do their breeding right here. The lush terrain, plentiful waterways, and thousands of acres of national and state refuge lands are the perfect habitat.
Try some bird watching of your own - the checklist below shows many of the typical species you'll see here. Get friends and family involved - who can find the most species during your weekend camping trip or your afternoon paddle down a river?
The Great Wisconsin Birdathon is an Annual Event that raises funds for the Natural Resources Foundation. Normally held during spring migration from April through June, the dates have been extended for 2020 through October 15 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing practices. You create or join a team (even a solo team is welcome) of bird watchers who pick a day to document all the species seen during a 24 hour period. This could be at a local park or from your living room window.
