The Lakes region of Juneau County has something for everyone. Both Castle Rock and Petenwell Lakes are created by power dams on the Wisconsin River. The river forms the eastern boundary of the county. Petenwell Lake is the 2nd largest inland lake in Wisconsin and is well known for its great fishing. Walleyes, northern pike, muskies and pan fish are plentiful and there's plenty of public boat launches available. Camping at Wilderness Park on Petenwell Lake ranges from full hookup to primitive and the scenery is great.
Castle Rock Lake is the fourth largest inland lake in Wisconsin and like its sister lake offers plenty of fishing and camping. Buckhorn State Park, Castle Rock Park & Germantown Park all on Castle Rock Lake offers visitors plenty of space to picnic and enjoy the view. Many campsites and resorts surround the lake and boat launches are plentiful.
